This glossary can help you prepare for the IELTS writing tasks related to World-wide production of passenger cars.

continent: noun; Any of the world's main continuous expanses of land (Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America, Australia, Antarctica).; Example: Turning next to the Americas, a sharp contrast can be seen between the Northern and Southern parts of the continent.
divide: verb; Separate or be separated into parts.; Example: For the purposes of this data set, the world is divided into seven regions.
manufacture: verb; Make (something) on a large scale using machinery.; Example: The pie chart gives the percentage of passenger cars manufactured by different regions of the world.
originate: verb; Create or initiate (something).; Example: By contrast, very few cars are produced in the Middle East and Africa: just 2% originate from that area.
percentage: noun; A rate, number, or amount in each hundred.; Example: The pie chart gives the percentage of passenger cars manufactured by different regions of the world.
production: noun; The action of making or manufacturing from components or raw materials, or the process of being so manufactured.; Example: Whereas North America can boast 19% of the world's passenger car production, South America manufactures just 4% of this type of vehicle.
proportion: noun; A part, share, or number considered in comparative relation to a whole.; Example: Moving on to Japan and Korea, despite the fact that they are just two countries rather than a whole region, they account for a sizeable proportion of the total, at 16%.
respectively: adverb; Separately or individually and in the order already mentioned (used when enumerating two or more items or facts that refer back to a previous statement).; Example: What stands out is that the regions of Greater China and Europe lead the way in terms of the manufacture of passenger cars, with 26% and 25% respectively.
sharp: adjective; (of an object) having an edge or point that is able to cut or pierce something.; Example: Turning next to the Americas, a sharp contrast can be seen between the Northern and Southern parts of the continent.
sizeable: adjective; Fairly large.; Example: Moving on to Japan and Korea, despite the fact that they are just two countries rather than a whole region, they account for a sizeable proportion of the total, at 16%.
